Reuters reported the death of General Vladimir Zavadsky, the deputy commander of the 14th Corps of the Russian Army in Ukraine.

Zavadsky, the 14th senior commander to be killed since the initiation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, died at a combat post in the special operations zone, according to Alexander Gusev, the governor of Russia's Voronezh region.

This marks the seventh confirmed death of a general in the Russian army, with a total of 12 senior officials reported killed since the commencement of Russia's invasion in February 2022.

In tandem with this, the British Ministry of Defense released a report on December 4th estimating that approximately 70,000 Russian soldiers and mercenaries have lost their lives since the start of the invasion.

The statistics cover the period from March 5, 2022, and indicate around 50,000 casualties from the armed forces and an additional 20,000 from the Wagner group.

The report also notes between 180,000 and 240,000 Russian military personnel and approximately 40,000 mercenaries have been injured during the war in Ukraine.

Both Russia and Ukraine have not officially disclosed their casualty figures, leading to challenges in accurately assessing the scale of their losses.

The New York Times, citing American officials, recently reported Russian casualties at 120,000 dead and between 170,000 and 180,000 wounded.

The same sources indicated Ukrainian casualties at 70,000 dead and between 100,000 and 120,000 injured.

While Moscow dismisses these figures and the British Ministry of Defense's summaries as anti-Russian propaganda, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to exact a heavy toll on both military forces involved.
