Indonesia to submit list of preferred tariffs on U.S goods
Indonesia has committed to providing a list of preferred tariffs on U.S. goods before the second round of trade talks with Washington, scheduled for this month. The announcement was made by Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto after meeting with the U.S. trade envoy. Indonesia, the U.S's third-largest export destination, shipped goods worth $26.3 billion to the U.S. in 2024, resulting in a $16.8 billion trade surplus. Hartarto stated that Indonesia is prepared to accelerate negotiations with the U.S. ahead of the July 3 deadline for reciprocal tariffs set by President Donald Trump as part of efforts to address U.S. trade deficits.
Indonesia and China launch 'China Centre' in Bali
Indonesia and China have inaugurated the "China Centre" in Bali to advance vocational tourism education and strengthen cultural ties. The centre, a collaboration with Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University, was officially opened on June 1. The centre will focus on training future tourism professionals, promoting cultural exchange, and fostering international cooperation.
Placement of 150 Indonesian medical migrant workers in Canada
The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (KemenP2MI) and the Ministry of Health of New Brunswick, Canada, have reached an agreement to place 150 Indonesian medical personnel in Canada. The collaboration was formalised through a virtual memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Dwi Setiawan, Director General of Promotion and Utilisation of Overseas Work Opportunities (KP2MI), on Tuesday in Padang, West Sumatra. The signing was witnessed by Minister of Migrant Worker Protection Abdul Kadir Karding.
Indonesia submits initial memorandum for OECD accession at 2025 ministerial meeting
Coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto submitted Indonesia’s Initial Memorandum (IM) to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretary-General Mathias Cormann during a bilateral meeting at the 2025 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting on Tuesday. The IM is a key milestone in Indonesia’s accession process, providing a detailed assessment of the country’s regulations and standards against OECD benchmarks. Indonesia, the first Southeast Asian nation to initiate OECD accession, has integrated this goal into its 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan.
