What we know

  • The October 10 election results released by the National Election Commission (NEC) had President George Weah at 43.83% and opposition leader Joseph Boakai at 43.44% respectively
  • The NEC announced that there would be a runoff election on November 14 to elect the next leader of the West African nation
  • The NEC in a press statement said approximately 3.3 million ballot papers for the election runoff arrived from Ghana on October 31
  • On November 1, the youth from about 10 opposition political parties endorsed incumbent president Weah for re-election

 What they said

“Today, we have gathered here not because we want to be part of the wave of support coming from many well-meaning Liberians. No, but because the country is at a critical juncture and we as young people must provide the best direction for our country and we are resolved,” a member from the opposition, Austin Toe said, at the endorsement programme held in support of George Weah.
