Magnitude 5.7 quakes Philippine central region

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in the central Philippines, The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from Reuters, the offshore earthquake struck at a depth of 19.2 km (12 miles), off the coast of the central province of Eastern Samar located in the Eastern Philippines.

 

No immediate reports of casualties, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). Aftershock are expected.

 

The Philippines is situated in the "Ring of Fire," a region characterized by a circle of volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean that is susceptible to seismic activity, including earthquakes.
