Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni convened with the United States Ambassador to Uganda, William W Popp at the presidential residence to discuss critical matters including East African regional security.

The meeting on May 9, described by the president's press team as addressing "various critical matters," also touched on the upcoming population census and socio-economic development.

“The discussions further delved into regional peace and stability, with President Museveni sharing perspectives on the ongoing efforts to foster peace and security in the region. He underscored the necessity of collaboration and cooperation among nations to address common challenges and promote stability, ultimately ensuring a peaceful environment for the well-being of all citizens,” a statement from the presidential press team stated.

President Museveni shared insights into ongoing efforts to foster peace and security in the region, according to the Monitor Uganda. Ambassador Popp noted the importance of continued dialogue in fostering a robust and mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and Uganda.

Uganda is currently being subjected to a series of sanctions from the West, notably the United States and the United Kingdom. The imposition of these sanctions arises from concerns that include allegations of human rights violations.

The World Bank on the other hand has suspended Uganda’s public financing due to the East African nation's harsh anti-gay laws.
