70 pupils missing after Kenya school fire: Video

Seventy children have been reported missing following a fire incident at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kenya.

Fire blazed a dormitory in the school located in Nyeri county in the early hours of September 6, killing seventeen pupils.

The dormitory is said to have housed 156 students between the ages of 9 to 13 years old.

Local reports indicate that the pupils were burnt beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua said investigations are underway to ascertain the whereabouts of some 70 pupils who remain unaccounted for.

He added that some may have been taken home by their parents and pleaded that such parents report to the International Red Cross or school authorities.

"And this is where I need to appeal. When this is then happened some parents came here and took away their children and they have not filed this report. I am appealing to each parent who took their child from here to report the same will give a number that is here by the International Red Cross and the school so that we know where that child is," Gachagua told reporters on the ground.
