Addis Ababa aiming to transform into a worldwide city
Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has shared her administration’s intentions to transform the city of Addis Ababa into a robust and highly sought-after worldwide city.
Speaking during the High-Level African Mayoral Event on the sidelines of the African Investment Forum held in Morocco, Adanech Abiebie said that the city is undergoing rapid growth and change, emphasizing the presence of stability and peace, reports local news media Fana Broadcasting.
"Urban development is among the priorities of our administration. We strongly believe in the need to transform the physical space to comprehensively transform the local economy and the environment. As a result, we are going to build the new phase of Addis," she said.
She extended an invitation to leaders and representatives of continental and international agencies taking part in the African Investment Forum to make investments in Addis Ababa.
The event was held under the theme, "Leveraging cities and municipalities for national development." The African Investment Forum which was held from November 8 to 10 covered the potential of financial resources for the rapid development of cities, as well as the opportunities and difficulties associated with city development generally.
At the forum, the African Development Bank launched a 2.5 billion USD municipal financing programme as a technical grant and lending to cities of which the Addis Ababa Mayor secured a part.
Adanech is certain that her administration will use all available resources to realize its goal of making Addis Ababa a desirable and competitive city.
