Leadership transition in Agriculture

In a recent development, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has made significant changes in Algeria's agricultural leadership. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, had his functions terminated, Algeria Press Service reports. President Tebboune, in consultation with Prime Minister Nadhir Larbaoui, appointed Mr. Youcef Cherfa to lead the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Additionally, Mr. Mohamed El Habib Zahana assumes the role of Minister of Transport. These changes reflect a strategic move to bring fresh perspectives to key sectors of the Algerian government.

Strategic collaboration with Russia

Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (ANP), held a significant meeting with Dmitri Chugaev, the director of the Federal Service of Military and Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation. This meeting, a part of the 21st session of the Algerian-Russian Intergovernmental Joint Commission, underscores the importance of military and technical cooperation between Algeria and Russia, Algeria Press Service reported.

Challenges in the Poultry Sector

Algeria is currently grappling with a crisis in its poultry sector. Poultry farmers and traders are on the brink of collapse, and the Ministry of Agriculture's approach to flooding the market with white meats is drawing criticism. “Of course, the prices are exorbitant, but we must take into consideration the fact that the poultry market has been volatile for years, due to many factors,” a trained veterinary poultry farmer told Algerie Focus. Meanwhile, the government has launched investigations into the poultry crisis.

Algeria's FIFA Rankings Ascent

Algeria's football team has shown commendable performances in recent international meetings, leading to an upward trajectory in FIFA rankings. While not as meteoric as expected, the team maintains a strong position in African rankings, currently at 4th place, Algerie Focus reports. However, the the Algerian national team still face stiff competition from their Egyptian counterparts who are only 0.95 points behind.

Traffic Accidents and Civil Protection

A recent report from Civil Protection sheds light on the grim reality of traffic accidents in Algeria. From November 19 to 25, the country witnessed 1,180 accidents, resulting in 29 fatalities and 1,299 injuries. Algiers bore the heaviest toll, with 147 accidents, the Algerian Press Service reports. Civil Protection teams were actively involved in responding to fires and conducting rescue operations, emphasizing the ongoing challenges in road safety and emergency services.
