Argentina’s former president questioned in corruption case: Video
Argentina's former president, Alberto Fernandez, appeared in court on November 27, over a corruption case.
The case looks at insurance policies taken out during his time in office from 2019 to 2023.
The former president is accused of using brokers including the husband of his secretary and others tied to his office instead of negotiating deals directly.
Investigators say this may have caused the government to spend more than necessary but Fernandez has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged.
His lawyer, Mariana Barbitta, said the summons was "null and void" and plans to appeal.
"We will continue appealing to all the appropriate instances, including taking it to the Supreme Court," AFP quoted Mariana.
The corruption allegations came up during a separate investigation into Fernandez following accusations of assault by his ex-partner. That investigation led to the court reviewing his secretary's phone.
Fernandez is a member of the Peronist movement, which has faced several corruption claims. Earlier this month, an appeals court upheld a six-year prison sentence for Cristina Kirchner, another former president, over public contracts during her time in office.
