Following this unrest, which contributed to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, an interim government has been established, while the UN Human Rights Office has initiated a fact-finding mission to examine alleged human rights violations during the period.

According to the Organiser, the climate of fear has escalated since the government’s overthrow, with Islamist extremists threatening families and businesses and dissuading them from seeking help from authorities, thus exacerbating the tension as the festive season approaches.
