Beijing hits back at top US official for describing China as an economic ‘threat’: Video
China’s foreign ministry has reacted to comments made by a top US official about the country presenting the biggest challenge in all of its history.
Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, speaking on September 19, described China as a threat and urged Europe to get tougher on Beijing.
According to him, the US has more work to do as far as investment in technology is concerned if they will be able to compete better with China.
“There is a recognition that this is the most significant challenge in our history,” Campbell told the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Lin Jian, reacting to the comments described it as a complete disregard for facts and an open and wanton exaggeration of the China threat.
“This is full of Cold War zero-sum thinking and ideological prejudice. China expresses strong dissatisfaction. The United States views the international situation and defines China-US relations from a perspective of strategic competition, mistakenly regarding China as the greatest challenge,” he was quoted by AFP.
He further urged the U.S to stop distorting China’s strategic intentions and spreading the China threat theory.
