Climate policies will continue even under Trump, Brazil minister says: Video
Brazilian Climate Minister Marina Silva has said that climate policies will continue even after Donald Trump takes office in January 2025.
Speaking to reporters at the COP29 climate conference in Azerbaijan, Silva expressed optimism that efforts to fight climate change will stop regardless of political pressure.
"The United States is an important country, it is the second largest emitter in the world but obviously what has already been happening is the reality of the United States, which has independent states. The policies will not be discontinued, and we hope that all the pressure being exerted by societies within each country will enable governments and companies to increase their efforts in tackling the climate issue," she told the AFP.
Silva also noted that despite political changes, actions to tackle climate change must continue worldwide.

This comes amidst Trump’s stance on climate change. The U.S. president-elect has questioned commitments to global climate efforts and has made some controversial decisions in the past, including his withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.
There are concerns about his decision on climate change issues under his new administration.
Nearly 200 countries are gathering at this year’s COP29 summit in Baku to discuss ways to limit global warming. Many nations are under pressure to update their plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with a focus on keeping global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
