Drug deaths in Finland soar as fears of harder substances grow: Video

Rising drug deaths in Finland have raised huge concerns with 310 people dying in 2023, including 91 under the age of 25.

According to experts, the situation is worsening as stronger drugs like fentanyl are expected to arrive.

"The situation has become unbearable," Annuska Dal Maso, who works with the A-Clinic Foundation, a group helping people with drug addiction, told the AFP.

Finland has one of the worst drug death rates for young people in the EU, and users in the country die younger than in most other nations. Dal Maso and other experts blame poor access to treatment and mental health issues among young people.

Activists are calling for drug injection rooms to reduce overdoses and for earlier, better treatment.

So far, Finland’s government has resisted the idea, despite petitions and rising deaths.
