New Year messages

President of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has extended goodwill to his citizens in and outside the country as the new year begins. In a speech, he expressed appreciation to the people of Equatorial Guinea for their support in the past year while congratulating them for their maturity in the assessment of government work. He further reiterated government efforts to rid the country of corruption and insecurity at all levels. “We long for Peace and Harmony to reign in all the homes of Equatorial Guinea and for the spirit of Christmas and the love of the Child Jesus to illuminate our hearts.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024! Up with the Republic of Equatorial Guinea!” he was quoted by Equatorial Guinea Government Institutional Website.

Increased malaria cases

Equatorial Guinea hospitals are increasingly recording malaria cases in public hospitals according to a statistical yearbook published by INEGE in 2022. 1,170 deaths were recorded including 52.6% men and 47.4% women, according to Ahoraeg. The data was collated and published by the National Institute of Statistics of Equatorial Guinea (INEGE) as the sixth edition of the Statistical Yearbook of Equatorial Guinea and the Foreign Trade Report, corresponding to the year 2023.

Support for Gaza

The government of Equatorial Guinea has expressed support for the Gaza Strip with some 500,000 Euros in the face of tensions facing the latter. Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue in a social media post pledged commitment to ensuring respect for human rights in Gaza. He further noted that the aid will be administered exclusively for the acquisition of basic items for the affected persons, the Revista Real EquitorialGuinea reported.

Electrical technicalities lead to breakdown at government institution

Some citizens of Equatorial Guinea have been affected by a breakdown at the National Center for the Issuance of Official Documents of Equatorial Guinea (CNEDOGE). The incident happened as a result of a fault with the internal electrical current distribution panel which led to an explosion, causing damage to the personalization system. According to media outlet Ahoraeg, technicians are already working to find a solution to the issue.

Football donations

The Chinese embassy in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea has donated sports equipment to the country’s Women’s Soccer Association. The donation was led by Wu Ziwei who is in charge of Political and Military Affairs. Shoes, socks, uniforms, and other materials formed part of the donation. The president of this Association María Rosa Nsini received the donation on behalf of the Association according to the Real Equatorial Guinea media platform.
