Explainer: Why government is paying youngsters in Columbia to stay away from crime

Colombia’s government has introduced the “Youth in Peace” program which aims to keep the youth away from crime. The initiative, which started last year, helps people aged 14 to 28 living in poverty and at risk of being recruited by gangs earn a monthly stipend of about $250.
