French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has told political leaders that he will not suspend or repeal President Emmanuel Macron's controversial pension reform law, a source from Macron's camp told Reuters.

Bayrou has proposed that employers and unions open discussions on the issue by autumn, the source added.

Socialist leader Olivier Faure told BFM TV earlier on Tuesday that his party, which wants Bayrou to suspend the pension reform, could be steps away from a possible deal with the French government.
