Ghanaian chef ends GWR cooking attempt with 820-hour-record
Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef, has wrapped up his ambitious bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after 820 hours.
He embarked on his culinary marathon on February 1, 2024, to surpass Ireland's Chef Alan Fisher who holds the current record of 119 hours for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Initially aiming for a 15-day endeavour, Chef Smith persisted for 35 days, ultimately clocking over 820 hours in the kitchen, reports local media Graphic Online.
Recent attempts from Ghana to get a Guinness World Record have been unsuccessful with candidates including Chef Faila who cooked non-stop for more than 227 hours. Despite these challenges, many fans remain optimistic about Chef Smith's potential to succeed and break the trend.
On March 6, Chef Smith officially ended his GWR attempt when he took to Instagram to write, “Happy Independence Day Everyone! Thank You all for the love. This is for us this is for Ghana”.
Ebenezer Smith, an international executive chef is also a graduate of National University’s College of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the Phillippines.
Chef Smith expressed his desire to set a record that would be difficult to break. “I originally planned to do 15 days but I have realised that people are coming up to break the record so I extended it to a month to make it difficult for anyone to break it,” Chef Smith was quoted by Asaase Radio.
