How Dangote is strengthening Nigeria's auto industry with locally-made Peugeot cars

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN), the official manufacturer and distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria, has commenced the local assembly of the GT model of the Peugeot 3008.
This move expands DPAN’s growing lineup and reinforces its commitment to boosting local automobile production.
The Peugeot 3008 GT, an award-winning SUV recognised for its design and performance, is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo engine. The assembly is taking place at DPAN’s state-of-the-art facility in Kaduna, further strengthening Nigeria’s position in the automotive manufacturing sector.
This development follows Peugeot’s first assembly of the 3008 model in Africa, which took place in Ghana in 2022 at the Tema Assembly Plant, owned by Silver Star Auto. That was part of a partnership between Citroën, Peugeot, and Silver Star Auto, which began in 2019 to expand Peugeot’s footprint across the continent.
DPAN first reintroduced Peugeot’s presence in Nigeria with the local assembly of the Peugeot 301 at its Kaduna plant. Since then, the company has expanded its lineup to include the Landtrek pickup, Peugeot 3008, 5008, and the latest 508 models.
Dangote’s foray into Nigeria’s automobile industry began in 2016 when his group, in partnership with the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry, acquired a majority stake in Peugeot Automobile. By 2017, he secured a license to establish a Peugeot assembly plant, and in 2022, DPAN officially launched operations.
With the addition of the Peugeot 3008 GT to its production line, DPAN continues to drive local manufacturing efforts.
