India adopts AI to stop stampedes at world's biggest gathering: Video

In a bid to address India's longstanding challenges with crowd management at large-scale religious events, organisers of the world's largest human gathering are turning to artificial intelligence to help prevent stampedes.
The Kumbh Mela, a centuries-old Hindu festival of ritual bathing and devotion, kicked off on Monday and is expected to draw up to 400 million pilgrims over its six-week duration.
"AI is helping us avoid reaching that critical mass in sensitive areas," said Amit Kumar, a senior police officer overseeing the festival's technology operations, in an interview with AFP.
