What we know

  • A bomb note on a flight from Delhi to Varanasi in India triggered panic among passengers and flight crew.
  • The flight due to take off on the morning of May 28 was stalled after the pilot found a threatening note on a tissue paper in the toilet. The note said “Bomb blast @ 30 minutes”.
  • All passengers disembarked through the emergency door of the IndiGo flight 6E2211 and an alternative flight was arranged. There were 176 passengers in total.
  • The incident comes ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for June 1. Campaigning activities have been rife in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Similarly, a bomb note was found in the lavatory of an Air India flight from New Delhi to Vadodara in Gujarat state on May 15, NDTV reported, citing police. The note turned out to be a hoax.

IndiGo indicated that there was a quick response to the situation and all passengers were rescued.

All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies,” IndiGo said.
