Indigenous communities protest in Brazil to defend their land: Video
Representatives from Indigenous communities gathered outside Brazil's Congress to protest against the "Marco Temporal" legal doctrine.
They argue it undermines their rights to land and reservations. This doctrine, supported by the agribusiness sector, stipulates that only lands occupied by Indigenous peoples as of October 5, 1988; the date the Brazilian Constitution was enacted; should be recognized and officially demarcated as Indigenous territory.
The demonstrators emphasized their demand for the protection of their ancestral lands and called for a reevaluation of policies that threaten their rights and heritage.
