Indonesia intercepts 113.65 kg of marijuana from Thailand
214 packages of marijuana, weighing 113.65 kilograms, were stopped from being smuggled from Thailand to Liverpool, England, by Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Customs.
BNN authorities took action to foil the planned smuggling after receiving information about a package sent from Thailand with suspicious content on July 24, 2024.
“Suspects, with the initials AS and MM have been detained. The marijuana packages were sent by BN, who is still on the hunt,” Sugiri was quoted as having said at a press conference on August 5.
The marijuana packages were found at the Jaka Permai Housing Complex, Bekasi, West Java, and Cipinang Melayu area, Est Jakarta respectively.
The first package contained 60 packages of narcotics weighing 31.88 kg stored in five sacks containing 10 bed covers while the second contained 154 packages weighing 81.77 kg. The second package was found buried in 29 boxes containing camping equipment and three boxes containing vacuum cleaners.
"These various marijuana packages were found in flavors such as strawberry heist and tropical passion," Sugiri was quoted.
Deputy for Eradication at the BNN, Brigadier General I Wayan Sugiri said the information was received from Customs officers at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
According to the brigadier general, details about the marijuana package came to light with information from AS, who visited the Soekarno-Hatta Airport import warehouse to pick up the package. BNN officers arrested AS on July 25, 2024, at 14:30 local time.
The joint team of BNN and Customs then monitored the shipment to Bekasi. At around 18:30 local time, officers managed to secure MM, the person who ordered AS and also the owner of PT CAS.
Through interrogation of AS and MM, it was disclosed that the marijuana package was intended to be sent to England via the PT HL expedition service.
Following this lead, officers from BNN and Customs moved to the expedition location in Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, and found a pile of cardboard boxes containing marijuana.
