Interpol has introduced a new tool called the "Silver Notice" to help countries track down assets linked to crimes like corruption, fraud, and drug trafficking.

The Silver Notice is part of a pilot project involving 52 countries, including India. It was first launched after Italy asked Interpol to locate assets tied to a senior mafia member.

This is the first time Interpol has added a new colour-coded alert in years after its Red and Yellow alerts. The Silver Notice allows countries to request information about properties, bank accounts, vehicles, and businesses connected to criminal activities. The aim is to recover stolen assets across borders.

The project will run until November 2025, with 500 notices available for use by participating countries.

India, which faces issues like black money and fugitive offenders, hopes to use the Silver Notice to track assets hidden in tax havens.

Interpol says this initiative is part of a global effort to fight organised crime by targeting the profits criminals make. Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza said, “Stripping criminals of their illegal profits is one of the most powerful ways to stop crime.”

The pilot project includes countries like the United States, UK, China, Nigeria, and Australia. However, during this phase, details of the notices will not be made public.
