January breaks record as world's warmest, EU scientists report

Last month marked the warmest January ever recorded globally, continuing a pattern of extreme temperatures despite the cooling influence of the La Niña weather phenomenon, according to the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).
In its monthly report, C3S revealed that January sustained a streak of unprecedented heat, with 18 of the past 19 months recording average global temperatures more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
