Emperor Naruhito delivered his annual New Year address at Tokyo's Imperial Palace, greeting thousands gathered to see him. Waving to the crowd, he said, "I hope this year will be peaceful and good for all of you. As the new year begins, I pray for happiness for the people of our country and the world."
