Kenya delays visa-free implementation for foreigners
Kenya has delayed the implementation of its visa-free policy for foreigners which was to be effective January 1, 2024.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) stated in a statement on January 2 that President William Ruto’s initiative to eliminate visa requirements for all foreign nationals travelling to the East African nation will take longer than expected.
According to the KCAA, the policy will not take effect until the government's announced modifications to the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system are disseminated.
“All travellers coming to Kenya from countries that require visas shall continue applying for visas in the usual manner until the government communicates more on the ETA system,” said the KCAA in a statement.
"Following the presidential directive that Kenya will be a visa-free country from January 2024, an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system is in the process of development and implementation. The digital platform will ensure that all travellers to Kenya are identified in advance," the authority added.
President Ruto announced in December 2023 that foreign nationals will no longer require visas to visit Kenya beginning January 2024.
