Humanitarian aid
Libya has been recognized as the second largest humanitarian aid donor to Gaza which is suffering the brunt of an Israel-Hamas war, according to local news outlet, Libya Observer. The country placed second after Egypt with some 546.9 tons after the latter’s 6,944 tons. Citing statistics released by Egyptian Red Crescent Society, the report noted that other countries including Kuwait, Qatar, and Turkey followed in rankings.
Private sector growth
The Lybian private sector has been growing strongly, the Libya Herald has reported. According to the report, this was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade in Lybia, Sohel Bushesha during interactions with Expertise France, a public agency designed to implement technical cooperation projects. Both institutions have worked together to accelerate transition towards economic growth and development.
Economic partnerships
Libya is looking to partner with Moroccan investors to strengthen its economy. The announcement according to the Lybia Observer was made during a meeting with Minister of Economy and Trade of the government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Huweij and leading Moroccan investors. Both countries hope to increase the levels of joint trade exchange.
Crashes
Traffic data released by Lybia’s Interior Ministry reveals that close to 10,000 lives were lost in motorway accidents between 2018 and 2022. Afrigate news reports that a total of 9,245 people were killed through crashes while 11,532 more were injured. Damaged vehicle numbers were also placed at 39,618 while material losses were estimated at 218 million dinars.
Education
Lybia’s port city Derna has resumed studies, addressing the issue of teacher shortage, local media outlet the Libya Observer has reported. This comes months after massive flooding in the area destroyed the town, resulting in an estimated 20,000 deaths. The country’s Education Ministry stated that it is working to limit the teacher shortage, the report added.
