The government of Malawi has agreed to send Malawian youth to work on farms in Israel as part of the government’s job creation initiatives.

The Malawi Ministry of Labour in a statement released on November 24 said that this decision is part of President Lazarus Chakwera’s labour export programme established in 2022.

“The general public is hereby informed that the Government has embarked on the export of labour to various countries including Israel. The labour export program is an initiative of the government in collaboration with the private sector to fulfil this administration’s commitment to job creation and youth empowerment as championed by His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi,” the statement said.

"On the Israel export, the youth will work at certified and approved locations which are classified as a fit and safe environment," the statement continued.

Over 200 young Malawians on November 24, left the East African nation for Israel as part of the programme, local media Malawi 24 reports.

The government’s decision to send its youth to Israel comes after thousands of nationals have been evacuated from Israel due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
