Mauritania has introduced an electronic visa (e-visa) system for international visitors. The use of this visa started on January 5.

Travellers can apply for an e-visa on the official website of Mauritania’s National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles, before boarding flights to the country.

The e-visas are available for 30, 60, or 90 days.

Applicants need to provide personal details, including their name, date of birth, nationality, and passport information. A passport-style photo and a copy of a passport valid for at least six months are also required.

Once approved, the e-visa will include a QR code. Travellers must print the document and show it to security officers on arrival. Visa fees are paid at the airport in Mauritania.

Before this, South African travellers and others could get a visa on arrival in Mauritania but this new system replaces that process.
