Meet Ghana’s youngest mechanic at age 11

At age three, her interest in her father’s work was piqued after she realised his job was keeping him away from herself and her mother.
Susanna Adjakie Apekor moved to live with her father and in the process began to learn to do what he does, repairing motorbikes.
By age 6, she had repaired her very first motorbike and today at 11 years old, she is Ghana’s youngest mechanic.
Like every other child of her age, she is in school and attends the Christ Victory School at Dodowa in the capital of Accra.
Speaking to the BBC, she explained that she changes her clothes after school and goes to help her father at his shop.
“My father teaches me how to repair the motorbike,” she was quoted.
Today, she repairs the engine, crankshaft, back break, change chains and sprocket tension riding chains among other things.
Susanna has higher ambitions of taking her craft another level in the near future. She wants to train in mechanical engineering with expertise in how to repair air planes.
“When I grow up, I want to learn how to repair planes, cars and boats,” she told the BBC.
