Mexico's top diplomat talks security, migration with new US counterpart
Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente spoke with the new U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about security and migration issues in a first official contact between the two diplomats, Mexico's president told reporters on Wednesday.
The "very cordial" phone conversation took place on Tuesday, and marked Rubio's first call with a foreign minister, President Claudia Sheinbaum added, following his confirmation to the post in Washington earlier in the day.
The Cuban-American Rubio, the first Latino to serve in the senior role, is a fluent Spanish speaker.
