More than 1,000 recruits of the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) have completed three months of special combat training in a secret jungle location in Northern Shan State.

The graduation ceremony marks a significant moment for the group, which has been engaged in a long-standing battle against Myanmar’s military junta.

In 2023, the TNLA launched "Operation 1027," named after its starting date. The operation has reportedly succeeded in pushing the junta out of approximately 50,000 square kilometres of territory, weakening its hold in parts of Shan State.

The TNLA is part of the Three Brotherhood Alliance, a coalition of ethnic armed groups that have been at the forefront of Myanmar’s armed resistance against the military since the 2021 coup.

Their efforts are aimed at securing greater autonomy and rights for Myanmar’s ethnic minorities, contributing to the broader struggle against the junta's rule.
