Nigeria’s Federal Government has launched a free Artificial intelligence institution as part of efforts to advance the country’s global digital economic goals.

The Academy was introduced in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation and inaugurated in Abuja.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, who spearheaded the launch, expressed optimism in its ability to promote critical AI skills in students, youth, and civil servants in the country.

The Nigerian government hopes to equip individuals, particularly in the growing digital world, through this project.

It also aligns with its larger focus on AI under the Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economic Ministry.

The ministry plans to launch a national AI strategy, a large language model trained in low-resource languages and accented English, and collaborate to advance inclusive AI projects.
