Nigerians react to minimum wage increase, say 'not enough': Video

Nigerians are expressing dissatisfaction with the recent increase in the minimum wage, saying it falls short of their expectations amidst the country's worst cost of living crisis.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu agreed to raise the monthly minimum wage to 70,000 naira ($43) for federal workers, including civil servants, airport staff, and public teachers. However, this hike from 30,000 naira is considerably lower than what labour unions had demanded.

Here are some reactions from Nigerians to the increase:

Ekele Esther, civil servant

"I believe it is not enough. It is not enough, not only to civil servants but also to Nigerian populace as a whole. And I mean the 70,000 minimum wage as it sounds it's nothing compared to what they are getting."

King James, civil servant

"That they increase this minimum wage it'll be manageable for now. But I believe that they will still do something by the special grace of God."
