PH law enforcement in pursuit of six abducted Chinese nationals
Philippine authorities are currently engaged in efforts to locate six Chinese nationals who were abducted in the capital region earlier this week, according to the Philippine National Police on Thursday.
Cosme Abrenica, head of the Police Anti-kidnapping Unit, stated that the authorities are conducting an inquiry into the abduction of nine individuals that occurred on Monday in an upscale neighborhood in southern Metro Manila. Among the victims, six were Chinese, and their whereabouts remain unknown, while the remaining three were Filipino and were released shortly after the abduction.
"We have no information if it's kidnap-for-ransom, kidnapping, or what the motive is. We haven't established it yet," Abrenica explained in a report from Reuters, not delving deeper into details about the victims' identities or their status in the Philippines.
Philip Aguilar, the police chief of Calauan town, where the Filipino victims were recovered, mentioned that one of the survivors recounted how the kidnappers had intruded into their residence in the early hours of Monday.
The Chinese embassy in Manila acknowledged that it had received a request from Reuters for a comment. While the motive behind this week's kidnapping remains unclear, it's worth noting that China has previously raised concerns with the Philippines about its citizens being enticed to work in online gaming companies and subsequently falling victim to deception, extortion, and exposure to what they term as "modern slavery."
