PH’s Commission on Elections declares no instances of election failures in any region
The Philippines’ Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday stated that the local village elections, also known as ‘Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan’ Elections (BSKE) for this year went well and proceeded smoothly, notwithstanding a few election-related incidents.
Comelec expressed optimism that the voter turnout would exceed 80 percent, thanks to the implementation of early voting and mall voting programs.
"We have no incident of failure of elections although there was a delay this morning," Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said.
"In Palawan, as we mentioned, the voting stopped temporarily because a ballot was lost. But according to our contingency plan... the election continued immediately when those who took it were caught.”
"Also, we can clearly see the fellows’ preference in the malls as much as possible in our polls," he said.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) noted that the overall situation in the country remained peaceful following the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). Furthermore, there were no significant incidents that undermined the integrity of the electoral process, as per their statement.
However, Laudiangco further discussed there were "29 incidents, resulting in 19 fatalities, and we have 113 other incidents that haven't necessarily led to fatalities but are still under validation."
He also stated, “19 confirmed injuries related to the elections."
PNP also documented 35 election-related incidents, with 19 incidents related to vote-buying.
