A third detainee on Monday, December 16 died in custody amid the ongoing crisis in Venezuela following the disputed July 28 presidential election. The detainee, 43-year-old Osgual Pérez who was arrested with his son had been held since August and died after reportedly receiving delayed medical attention for severe abdominal pain. This incident has sparked protests from relatives and human rights groups. The Venezuelan government has faced significant international pressure over its crackdown on dissent, with over 2,000 people detained and at least 24 killed during protests. On, Monday, the attorney general announced about 533 people detained have been granted prison release orders.
