Reactions as Egypt's Sisi wins elections by almost 90%
After a 3-day election in Egypt, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has emerged winner. The former military chief polled a total of 89%, the Election Authority announced.
Sisi's re-election comes a decade after his initial rise to power through a coup.
This makes it the third time he is running as president.
The election saw him contest against three other candidates, Abdel Sanad Yamama of the Liberal Wafd Party, Hazem Omar of the Republican People’s Party and Farid Zahran of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party.
Hazem Omar came second place in the polls with about 4.5% of the votes.
The elections recorded 66.8% of voters with over 39 million citizens voting to give Sisi a six-year term until 2029, Reuters reported.
Sisi who has been described as authoritarian by many first became president in 2014 - winning 97% of the vote, after which he won with a similar percentage in 2018.
Meanwhile reactions have emerged on social media following the declaration by the country’s Election Authority.
