Rwanda to host International Automobile Federation assembly in 2024

Rwanda is set to host the General Assembly of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

The FIA is the regulatory body for international automobile and motorsport activities like Formula 1 (F1).

The decision to designate the East African nation’s capital Kigali as the next host for the FIA General Assembly was announced at the FIA’s annual General Assemblies held in Baku, Azerbaijan on December 8.

“The second General Assemblies meeting and the Prize Giving will be hosted in the city of Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024,” the FIA announced in a statement.

Rwanda’s Sports Ministry also confirmed the FIA governing body’s decision in an announcement on social media.

The East African nation also hosted over two thousand delegates from the footballing world for the 4th and first-ever elective FIFA Congress held in Africa for the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali on March 16, 2023.

In his welcome address at the event that had heads of football confederations and other global players in football in attendance, Rwanda President Paul Kagame said, “What the world needs, is to see more of the positive spirit of sportsmanship in our politics, rather than bringing political divisions into sports.”
