São Paulo chef named World’s Best Female Chef 2024
Known for her specialties in innovative pork dishes, São Paulo’s Janaina Torres has been adjudged 2024’s World Best Female Chef.
The global award from Restaurant Magazine was awarded at a ceremony in Las Vegas on June 5.
The co-owner of A Casa do Porco restaurant in São Paulo specialises in meals including slow-roasted pig, artisan sausages, and cassava croquettes.
Her restaurant ranks number twelve on the 2023 World’s 50 Best Restaurant’s list. Aside from A Casa do Porco, Torres runs popular venues in São Paulo like O Bar da Dona Onça and Hot Pork.
Her commitment to social activism has also won her global recognition. She has collaborated with the São Paulo government to improve the diet of 1.8 million schoolchildren with fresh ingredients.
Torres also garnered government financial support for chefs and hospitality workers during COVID-19.
Torres also earned the prestigious Latin America’s Best Female Chef award in 2023, according to The Rio Times.
