Tanzania, Mozambique to sign natural gas reserve share agreement

The petroleum regulatory authorities of Tanzania and Mozambique are in the final phase of signing an agreement on an equal natural gas reserve share.

According to the Citizen Tanzania the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (Pura) of Tanzania and National Institute of Petroleum (INP) of Mozambique revealed this unitization agreement on November 7 at a meeting between officials of Pura and the media.

The CEO of Pura, Charles Sangweni said the imminent unitization agreement between the two countries is triggered by the overlapping geographical locations of the gas reserves.

“In order to implement this, we have been in contact with our colleagues through the ministry of foreign affairs and our ministry (the ministry of Energy), so that we can now enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will bring cooperation on many things, including entering into a unitization agreement,” Mr Sangweni is quoted to have said in the report.

The collaboration is expected to leverage the gas infrastructure of both nations to facilitate transmission. As a buildup to ensuring successful transmission, the two nations have formed a team of expert to work together and finalize the agreement.

“In order to implement this, we have been in contact with our colleagues through the ministry of foreign affairs and our ministry (the ministry of Energy), so that we can now enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will bring cooperation on many things, including entering into a unitization agreement,” Mr Sangweni added.
