Thailand introduces app allowing drivers to go licence-free while driving
Drivers in Thailand do not have to carry their licences around anymore because the Department of Land Transport (DLT) has introduced a mobile app to provide convenience for them.
The QR Licence mobile app allows drivers access to copies of digital driving licences on electronic devices including phones and tablets.
Personal information such as the blood type and drug allergy histories of drivers will be available on the app. The app will also notify drivers before the expiration of their licences.
This new technology will also allow for the travel routes, locations and vehicle registration numbers of drivers to be shared with others and emergency messages can be sent via phone or SMS when accidents happen.
It also provides information and news from the DLT.
The app is compatible with both Android and iOS systems and can be downloaded from official stores such as Google Play Store or App Store, according to the Director-general of the DLT Seksom Akraphand.
Only driver’s licences that are compatible with the app must be used. The licences must be one of the newer types with a QR code on the back.
