Top countries most addicted to social media in 2025

With the abundance of several fun social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook, it is inevitable that a huge section of the world’s population will stay glued to their screens.
According to Data Reportal, there are 5.24 billion active social media users around the world, which translates into a 4.1% increase over the past year.
Kenya (4 hours and 13 minutes)
Kenya's social media engagement is significant, with users dedicating considerable time to online interactions. The country tops the global chart in daily social media usage, despite a relatively low overall internet penetration rate.
Brazil (3 hours and 32 minutes)
Approximately two-thirds of Brazil’s population actively uses social media, amounting to over 140 million users. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube are among the most popular in the country. On average, Brazilians spend around 3 hours and 31 minutes per day on social media, placing Brazil among the top nations in terms of social media usage worldwide.
Philippines (3 hours and 32 minutes)
The Philippines maintains its position as one of the most active countries on social media, with a significant portion of the population engaging daily. According to DataReportal, as of early 2025, approximately 97.5 million people in the Philippines were internet users, representing an internet penetration rate of 83.8%.
Nigeria (3 hours and 23 minutes)
As of January 2024, Nigeria ranked fifth globally for average daily time spent on social media, with users spending approximately 3 hours and 23 minutes each day on social platforms. This year, the country is 4th globally but maintains same screen time. This positions Nigeria among the most active social media user bases worldwide. Despite an internet penetration rate of just 55%, the country had around 123 million internet users.
Indonesia (3 hours and 8 minutes)
As of the third quarter of 2024, Indonesians spent an average of approximately seven hours and 22 minutes online each day, with about three hours and eight minutes dedicated to social media. The widespread availability and affordability of internet data plans have significantly contributed to increased social media activity across the country. During this period, WhatsApp and Instagram were the most widely used social platforms in Indonesia.
