Top countries with the highest numbers of babies born every hour
Every hour, thousands of babies are born around the world, but some countries contribute significantly more to this number than others.
According to the UN Population Prospects, more than 132 million babies were born globally in 2023, which translates to roughly 15,000 babies every hour.
Here are the top 9 countries contributing the most to this number:
India: Leading the list, India saw over 2,651 births every hour in 2023. This is more than twice the number of the second-ranked country.
China: With approximately 1,016 babies born every hour, China holds the second spot. The country is however suffering from low population growth.
Nigeria: Nigeria follows with around 857 births per hour, making it the highest in Africa.
Pakistan: Pakistan sees about 786 babies born every hour.
Indonesia: Indonesia contributes with 512 births per hour.
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): The DRC has around 499 births every hour.
Ethiopia: Ethiopia sees approximately 469 babies born every hour.
United States: The U.S. has about 418 births per hour, the highest in the Americas.
Bangladesh: Bangladesh contributes 398 births per hour.
