Former U.S. President Donald Trump, now the Republican presidential nominee, has pledged to be a strong "defender" of Jewish Americans and a staunch ally of Israel if he is re-elected.

Speaking at an event, Trump emphasised his commitment to fighting anti-Semitism and supporting Israel, while aiming at his political opponents.

"More than any other people on Earth, Israel has to defeat her [U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic presidential nominee]," Trump said. "I really believe that it's a disaster for Israel, and we're going to take back our country, make Israel great again, and make America great again - greater than ever before," he added.

Addressing the Jewish American community directly, Trump promised to be their "defender" and "protector," pledging to strengthen their support in the White House if re-elected. He also laid out specific plans to combat anti-Semitism, vowing to take immediate action within his first week back in office, the AFP reports.

"My administration will inform every college president that if you do not end anti-Semitic propaganda, they will lose their accreditation and federal tax credit support," Trump declared.

The former president’s remarks are part of his campaign to Jewish voters and pro-Israel groups as he seeks reelection in the upcoming presidential polls.
