It is that time of the year again when the thumbs of Americans speak. Reports from various media sites indicate the Republican candidate, Donald Trump has won over 270 electoral votes to become president.

Here is a look at the U.S. presidents of the last four decades, according to White House history:

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989)

Reagan's presidency was marked by significant economic policies known as "Reaganomics," a strong stance against the Soviet Union, and the end of the Cold War. He was the 40th US president on the ticket of the Republicans.

George Herbert Walker Bush (1989-1993)

As a Republican and the 41st president, Bush oversaw the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall which navigated the end of the Cold War era.

Bill Clinton (1993-2001)

From 1993 to 2001, the Democrats Clinton's presidency saw economic prosperity, the signing of NAFTA, and the advent of the internet age.

George W. Bush (2001-2009)

George Walker Bush, a member of the Bush family and the Republican Party's presidency was defined by the response to the 9/11 attacks, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and significant domestic policies like the No Child Left Behind Act.

Barack Obama (2009-2017)

Obama's tenure focused on healthcare reform with the Affordable Care Act, navigating the Great Recession, and significant foreign policy initiatives like the killing of Osama bin Laden and Libya's Muammar Gaddafi.

Donald Trump (2017-2021)

Trump's term was characterised by major policy changes, an "America First" agenda, and often contentious domestic and international relations. Despite this, he has been re-elected as the 47th president in the 2024 elections.

Joe Biden (2021-present)

Biden's presidency has focused on addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, and rebuilding international alliances.
