The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has suspended a grant agreement with a Zimbabwe-based partner as part of a broader reevaluation of U.S. foreign aid.

This suspension will commence on January 24, 2025, and requires the implementing partner to cease all activities linked to the award while reducing associated costs during this period.

As part of the directive, USAID has also ordered an immediate halt to all Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)-related activities under existing agreements.

USAID’s supervisory agreement officer, Andrea M. Plucknett, has required recipients of the grants to certify that DEIA activities have ended and to identify any subcontractors or subgrantees impacted by the suspension.

Recipients are also required to submit a plan detailing how they will minimise costs and confirm their compliance with the suspension order. This suspension marks a significant shift in the focus of US foreign aid, and USAID is expected to provide further details on this policy change in the near future.
