Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed rumours regarding plans for a stricter visa regime for foreign visitors.

At a press briefing in Hanoi, spokesperson Pham Thu Hang clarified that the current visa policies are designed to encourage foreign nationals to enter, reside, and participate in Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

The recent changes in legislation, effective from August 15, 2023, aim to streamline the entry process for foreign citizens, especially for study, work, investment, research, and tourism.

Under the amended laws, the e-visa's duration has been increased from 30 to 90 days, enhancing accessibility. Additionally, nationals from 13 countries benefiting from Vietnam's unilateral visa exemption will receive a temporary residency extension from 15 to 45 days.
