Who is Malaysia's new King, Sultan Ibrahim? : Video

Malaysia's newest monarch, Sultan Ibrahim, ascended to the throne in a grand ceremony held at Kuala Lumpur's National Palace on July 20.

At 65, the motorcycle-riding billionaire became the country's 17th king after taking his oath in January. Sultan Ibrahim's family, who govern southern Johor state just across from Singapore, is estimated by Bloomberg to be worth at least $5.7 billion. The source of their wealth stems from diverse investments in palm oil, real estate, and telecommunications, including land in Singapore.

Married with six children, Sultan Ibrahim is known for his philanthropy, often touring Johor on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to distribute charity. He has personal interests in business, including a stake in Forest City, a $100 billion development project. A graduate of Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, he has military training and serves as an officer in Malaysia's armed forces, AFP reported.

Sultan Ibrahim's reign marks the return of Johor's influence in Malaysian royalty, a position last held by his father in 1984.
