Wife allegedly bites off husband's ear in heated domestic dispute in India
A 45-year-old man from Delhi underwent surgery after his wife, in a fit of rage, bit off the upper portion of his right ear.
The incident occurred when the man returned home after asking his wife to clean the house, leading to an argument about selling the house and dividing assets.
Attempting to persuade his wife, the situation escalated, and she attacked him, biting off a portion of his ear.
The victim was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital by his son for treatment, and a case has been registered by the police. Such incidents are uncommon in India, where thousands of women annually report domestic violence by their husbands.
As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which compiles crime data, there were 136,234 incidents of cruelty against women by husbands or relatives in 2021, an increase from 104,551 in 2017. This accounted for nearly one-third of total crimes against women in 2021, highlighting the prevalence of violence against women.
